RVRHS Alumni Sept 03 Newsletter

This months newsletter is brought to you by the coolest book I've ever laid eyes on: In Adobe Acrobat format - it is a complete step by step guide for newbies and pro's who are interested in successful affiliate marketing - written by the man who is THE expert in the field - James Martell's - Affiliate Marketers Handbook

I am asking for anyone who can to put out word about the site to former RVRHS students - especially to siblings to please spread the word. Also I am very interested in getting more pictures on the site so if you have pictures in electronic format (jpg, gif, tif, bmp) feel free to forward them to webmaster@rvrhs.org If you would rather mail hard copies to me to scan the address is:

Denis Bernicky

Dorval, Qc H9P1Z3

Wow how time flies. This is the first newsletter since May. It has been a busy summer and continues to be a busy fall as my wife's Stage III C breast cancer continues to make our lives interesting. I have been keeping a record of our experiences so far at http://www.bernicky.com if you are interested in hearing the details. Other than that life has been relatively uneventful. I hope everyone else's summer was less interesting than summer at our house.

A special thanks to Tony Tong, Nellie Root, Greg Bryant, John Adams, Lech Pinkowski, Charles A Bourque, Andre Nault and Michel Malin for their donations in support of the RVRHS.ORG site.

Some of you may have noticed that RVRHS.ORG was down for a few days at the end of August as I moved the domain to a new server. The move also necessitated a new installation of the RVRHS.ORG Phorum (the discussion group) with some new rules that I have taken some heat about and even lost some vistors over.

***** Please Read********** Please Read********** Please Read********** Please Read*****
This is the last newsletter that will go out from my own email account at home. I have created a mailing list subscription page at http://rvrhs.org/cgi-bin/mojo_154/mojo.cgi  if you want to continue to receive the newsletter you will have to subscribe to it at that URL.

Getting through three months of postings was a little time consuming so the pictures I took at the final grad ceremony are not up yet, but they will go up in the near future along with the final addresses and as much other information as I can put together. The ceremony was very good and it was

Lorraine (Lorrie) McFadden (Class of 69) mcfadden@attglobal.net
My older brother, Grant, passed this site on to me. It is quite something to hear how folks have been doing. I graduated in 1969 and went to McGill for four years, got restless and left school for a few years, lived on Cape Cod, and then went back and finished up a bachelor's degree from Concordia in the early seventies. I stayed restless and went over to the Middle East and lived on a kibbutz in Israel for a while. I came back to Montreal, got married and moved to London where we operated an art store for a few years. After a divorce, I started working for a neurologist as a research assistant, and met Bill Browett. We were married in 1986 and moved to Toronto. I got restless again and went off to Ottawa where I finished a PhD in neuropsychology at the ripe old age of 40. I worked in a few Toronto hospitals and now work out of my own practice in Mississauga. I don't have any children but I have nieces and nephews aplenty.I saw an article about a physicist at McGill by the name of Jim Logan, and wondered if it was the same one from Beloeil. A few years ago I saw someone working at Second City in Toronto that was a dead ringer for Peter Scharf but didn't have a chance to speak to him. Peter, if you have been out west all this time, you have a double in T.O. Old timers can reach me at mcfadden@attglobal.net

Linda Dryden (Class of 72) lindadryden2003@yahoo.com
I am married to a high school muscic teacher in New York having a great time living, traveling. Work for a time in Ottawa taught at the House of Commond, and most government offices in the 78-82 life has been very good to me. my sister Julie lives in the Gatineau and my brother Wayne live in Trentan Ontario.

Roger Barany (Class of 73) barany@telus.net
After failing my French oral at RVRHS because I was too shy or too stupid to answer more than oui/non (I must have thought it was a referendum), did three years civil engineering technology at Dawson College followed by four years Civil Engineering at Concordia University. Worked two years in Vancouver designing streets and sticking my head down sanitary sewers, got professional status and a layoff. That led to two years teaching ESL in Mexico for a dollar an hour, a dollar fifty plus dental plan when the Universidad de Yucatán hired me. Returned to Vancouver with my Mexican sweetheart, got married and then divorced four years later. Became a volunteer Spanish interpreter for Central Americans fleeing their homeland thanks to another U.S. financed war, got hired as a bilingual settlement worker for immigrants and refugees, met and married Sandra from El Salvador, quit my job and have been a freelance interpreter and translator ever since. Still can't believe I am "settled down" with a wife, a mortgage, two zipotes (kids: Emmanuel,10 years, Chantal, 21 months), three languages (to confuse the hell out of those kids), but no pets at least. My older brother Alex, who also graduated from RVR, became a physics and computer genius before dying unexpectedly in 1989 after fainting and choking on a pizza. My mother went through a third excruciating divorce recently at age 76. My father's house almost burned down in Kelowna the other day. A few dozen more people blew up in the Middle East today. The meaning of life still escapes me, although I almost had it figured it out in the summer of '80 while studying French in Paris. Did a dad-son study-holiday in Trois-Rivières this summer (2003) and went to visit cottage/skiing country at Mt. Owl's Head. Several RVR classmates were diehard skiiers there. Our favourite run, the narrow rough-hewn body-breaking liftline, has been bulldozed into a gently-contoured intermediate's paradise. Ni modos, todo cambia... pas vrai?

Geetings to the class of 75! Unlike many of you I've never left the Montreal area. I've had many opportunities to leave but after travelling extensively over the past 13 years on business I've come to the conclusion that I still prefer Montreal to any other city I've visited. I've been divorced for the past 7 years. I have one son, Jaret, whom I am very proud of. He's 19 years old and currently an english major in college. Thanks to the people who maintain this website (I didn't know it existed until last week).

I hope everyone is having a great life and enjoying it to the fullest.

Lech Pinkowski (Class of 78) lechster@earthlink.net
Hi Y’all;

A special hello to all those ex-Cedar Street School students. Guess what? I managed to learn English after all. Yeah! And what have I done with that special skill? Well first went to Champlain, and then – kicking and screaming – to University of Toronto, where I grabbed for the brass ring, a revered Bachelor of Science degree (in Computer Science). Remained a “Bachelor of too much Science” until finding my lovely wife Wendy, but not before leaving Hogtown (a.k.a. “Toronto the Good”) for the spiritual capital of “The O.C.”, Newport Beach, Ca.

The lure of living in a locale with 4000 privately owned yachts, and most importantly near the harbour from where “The Minnow” left on its three hour cruise, was just too much to pass up!

In between have had a bit of a career as a team leader, senior analyst/programmer, senior trainer at clients/employers like IBM, Auto Club of Southern California, KPMG, AXA, AAA Michigan, ING Canada, Royal Sun Alliance, The Dominion etc. in exotic and non-exotic places like Barbados, Mississauga, Montreal, Costa Mesa California, London U.K., London Ont., and of course,To.

So that’s where I’m at in “broad strokes” for details you’ll just have to contact me!

Feel doubly encouraged to contact if you are an RVR’er (student or faculty) who’s bumped into me at Champlain, or Cedar Street School, or Senior Boys Volleyball (RVR/Champlain), or Senior/Junior Band or just hanging around during lunch time and recess.

In fact if you are in the Orange County area let me know and we’ll go to the Hard Rock Café at Fashion Island, or Dennis Rodman’s place or maybe even John Wayne’s favorite near the Pacific Coast highway.

Cheers.

It's great to see so nay familiar names. I still live in the area, St-Hilaire to be precise. I've been with my girlfriend Isabelle for almost 9 years. We have 5 year old girl, a 2 year old son and a dog. I work as a freelance video editor in the broadcast and corporate sectors. It's great to see that time has treated us well. I'd love to hear from everyone out there.

Cathy Huddleson (Class of 86) cathy@freedom-wireless.com
It's been 17 years since high school and yet it feels hardly any more than a couple years ago. Alot has happened since then. As everyone seemed to do, I went to Champlain College and quit during my second year to work at the Scotiabank in Montreal. I stayed there for 8 years. I decided then to move to Cornwall, Ontario and start over. I returned to school and got my diploma in Business Technology and my CCNA. I now have returned to work for IES Communications and Telus as IT Specialist and Manager of Cellular Repairs.
As for my personal life, I settled down with a guy, had a kid, separated, met another guy who had many troubles, had another kids, separated. I ended with Jason, 12, and Jordan(girl),8 and i enjoy my two kids even though my love life was pitiful. In 2000, I went to a wedding of a friend in St. Bruno, and there I met the love of my life, Steve Frost (class of '82) and we have been together ever since. He is now living with me and the kids in Monkland, Ontario. I would be great to hear from anyone and catch up and know how they are doing!

Hey everyone! What a great site! Well, after high school, I travelled the world for a few years, became fluent in "European" French (ha!) and Spanish and acquired a smattering of several other languages as well. I then settled in Ottawa when I married an East-Indian businessman in Sept. 1995. I subsequently had two wonderful little boys; Kino (born in July 1996) and Kale (born in July 1998). After the birth of my second son I began to study the ancient art of belly dance for fun and fitness, but seeing as dancing has always been my passion my hobby quickly turned into a profession. I am now a professional belly dancer. I own my own dance company; Fire Spirit. I teach 5 classes a week and perform professionally at ethnic restaurants and various other public, private and corporate events. Please visit my website when you have the chance; www.firespirit.ca . My dancing has been a wonderful personal journey which brings me immense pleasure while still giving! me the opportunity to raise my children whom I cherish more than anything. I would love to hear from any of you! Please feel free to drop me a line! Take care everyone!

Hey, check it out... This site is pretty cool. It's been just about ten years since I've seen most of you, except those of you who went to Champlain - a.k.a. RVR 2. I spent a few years there to say the least. You know, changing programs and majoring in pool 101 in the 'bandring', ahh... good times. In the end, I got a professional DEC in Business Administration and then went on to Concordia and got a bachelor's degree in Business Management. I've been working every summer at Mount Bruno Country Club playing a whole lot of golf. I just got my C.P.G.A. pro card and I'm playing the Ben Hogan circuit for Assistant Pro's in Quebec. So if anyone's looking for a golf lesson, I'd be more than happy to help you out. I'd love to catch up with everyone... maybe I'll see you at the 10-year reunion. Julie Maurice has booked a reception hall at Le Bifteque in Boucherville for August 16th,'03. So spread the word and we'll see you there! Later, Brent LeCraw

Now trying to make a penny as a freelance writer while planning my next adventure. So heres calling all globe trekkers, writers, and general bohemians; Would love to hear from you all.

After studying Fine Arts for four wonderful, exciting and "U.I" years, I have left the arts community. My mind is now running a mile a minute trying to decide where to go from here, career wise. I have been living in Ottawa (GO SENS GO!) with my boyfriend for the past 2 1/2 years and we bought our first home in March 2002. Hey, some of you guys who knew me, drop me a line and give me some ideas for career opps would ya! Otherwise I may be forced to go back to my Bob Dylan album and search for ideas there. Big smile for everyone!

After cégep, I got an arts BA with a concentration in history from U of Ottawa, then a diploma in parks and forest recreation from Sir Sandford Fleming College (all in the space of four of the most exhausting years of my life!). I'm currently working in the parks field as an admin officer/accounting clerk, as well as running a tiny home business in translating/copy editing. I live out in the middle of nowhere north of Gatineau with my two cats, glad to be settled after moving five times in as many years. I can be reached at uskeba@sympatico.ca . I'd love to hear from all the friends I've lost touched with and get in touch with anyone living in the area.

Well a lot has happened since the end of high school. Even if I have not made it in the film world like I wanted at ther end of school I have to say that my life is where i want it to be. I have resently been blessed with the joy of giving birth to a wonderful son and have found that man of my life. I hope some of you will let me know how you are doing. Even if high school was hard for me I have to say i miss you all. I hopes to hear from you soon.

Hi all!
I know that I kinda dissappeared of the map but I haven't gone far geographically! Right now I am in Kingston Ontario, about to start my final year of a 4 year program at RMC (Royal Military College). As some of you know, I joined the Military...I finished Basic training the summer of '99 then did a year in St-Jean as a sort of CEGEP year. Now I am in 4th year, a senior cadet, and I have the honour of indoctrinating all the new1st years in the fall!! I am taking Honour Space Science and training to be an AERE (Aerospace Engineering Officer). When I graduate in May 2004 I will become a commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces (a second-lieutenant-2LT). I am around on long weekends and for a time during the summer and it would be cool to get together and catch up. This summer (2003) I am off to work at the International Space University in Strasboug France, it will be a great experience! As for my sports...I am pretty busy...I am a varsity Fencer...that's right, think sword fighting! It is really fun. I hope you are all doing well, take care!
