RVRHS Alumni
October 2001 Newsletter
Not unusually I am asking for anyone who can to put out word about the site to former RVRHS students - especially to siblings to please spread the word. Also I am very interested in getting more pictures on the site so if you have pictures in electronic format (jpg, gif, bmp) feel free to forward them. If you would rather mail hard copies to me to scan the address is:
Denis Bernicky
552 Prince Charles,
Dorval, Qc H9P1Z3
Tania Fell tfell AT virtualchip.com has found a 69-70 yearbook in some stuff and has no use for it. If you are interested in acquiring it drop her a line.
Class of 91 Reunion Info - Please contact Teresa via E-Mail this is NOT a GeekStreet production:
Message from Teresa: Everything below is subject to change, so please don't arrange days off work, etc., until I have finalised all this by the end of the year.
With the help of a few kind individuals (volunteers please?), I hope to organise the following for the weekend of June 29/30 2002. p.s. of COURSE your partners are invited.
Saturday Evening: The official reunion, at RVR (I still need to confirm this date with the school). The majority of responses to date have requested that the reunion be held there, so apologies to those whose first choice was different.
Sunday Excursion: Optional White Water Rafting Excursion on the Rouge River. This will be a one day package and include 4-6 hrs of kayaking + full BBQ + hot tub + outdoor pool etc. The cost will probably be about $79 per person and will get cheaper as more people sign up. I will send out further details on this by the end of October.
I am looking for volunteers to help with the following:
someone to collect digital pictures and/or scan regular pictures into their computer and create a montage of some sort for the evening of the reunion. Any creative types out there? Technical folks?
someone to compile people's (optional) biographies and make some sort of scrapbook. You know the kind: "Where have we been..."
someone to put together a website for the reunion. If no one volunteers, I may end up doing this, but I would be happy to offload a bit to anyone interested
someone to be in charge of music for the evening
someone to be in charge of food (e.g. getting quotes from caterers)
someone to be in charge of decorations
someone that is willing to contact those folks not using email by phone to keep them informed re: the reunion
people to help in setting up for the reunion itself? e.g. selling tickets ahead of time, arriving a couple of hours early on the day of, and assisting with logistics leading up to the reunion itself.
So please let me know if you are able to help with any of these things. The more people involved, the better, particularly since I am trying to organise this from where I usually live (Seattle) and am currently living (Brisbane Oz).
Also:
Is anyone interested in DJ-ing, or performing???
Does anyone know any good caterers?
Let me know if you have any other ideas for the evening or optional excursion.
Regards
Teresa Canniff tcanni AT hotmail.com

After RVR I went to Marianopolis, then to Durham University (England) to study Archaeology & Anthropology. I never meant to stay, but that's what happened ... I met my husband, Peter, who is a music teacher, and we do various musical things in our spare time, like editing 'Harpsichord & Fortepiano' Magazine www.beedata.com/harp ... Work-wise, I have done various jobs in archaeology since I graduated from Durham in 1981 (apart from a six-month stint as an au-pair in Perugia, Italy), from editorial work for the York Archaeological Trust (of Jorvik Centre fame, if you've ever been to York), museum work, and, for the last (nearly!) ten years, I have been working for English Heritage (government quango) on their Monuments Protection Programme -- great job, going around the countryside designating archaeological sites for statutory protection. (I'm not sure whether you have that in Canada -- it's a form of designation that means it's against the law to damage or alter a National Monument without permission, even though it is in private ownership and there is no public access.) I meet all sorts of interesting people living in all sorts of interesting places, who either love their archaeological sites and are only too happy to have them protected, or consider them a "curse" and want to destroy them -- fortunately for me, most owners fall into the former category!
It's amazing to read all those names on our school register after over 25 years ... very familiar, but from a different world! After nearly 24 years in England, I have pretty well got an English accent (but not quite), and feel completely at home here. But I do miss the sound of crickets, and that summer cycle of humidity / thunderstorms / clear air which you get in the St Lawrence Valley. My family are now spread across Canada and the US, so I don't have any reason to go back to Otterburn, more's the pity!
Brigitte Kunz (Class of 75) bbk31 AT hotmail.com
I did not go to RVR for very long (2 years and 1 month) because we moved to Longueuil and I then went to Lemoyne D'Iberville and graduated in 1976. Quite a change - I can tell you. In 1981 moved to Ottawa, in 1986 moved back to Montreal, in 1991 moved back to Ottawa, and finally in 1994 moved to Vancouver and here I sit (for the time being).
I am looking for (or any news about) Robert Robinson from Chambly.

Still on the road, still heading for another joint, I'll be in Hamilton, Tuesday, October 16, 2001 7:30 p.m. at The Raven, and Toronto, Wednesday, October 17, at the Paddock Lounge, corner of Queen W. & Bathurst, reading, signing and flogging ICED, a book of Canadian noir fiction (my story kicks it off).
I even drop in the name of a former RVR teacher.
Anyway, I'd love it if anyone from RVR showed up. Hell, I'd love it if anyone showed up.

Yup. Graduated from McGill in 1985 in Computer Engineering. Joined the Officer Corps of the Canadian Air Force in 1988 as a Communications Engineer. Eventually worked as Commanding Officer of a Communication Squadron. Did my Post-Grad in Aerospace Systems in 1997. Graduated top of the course with a 97.8 average. Working right now on modernizing the Air Defence System used here in Canada. Our project recently got a lot of attention from the US Air Force.
Married Barbara (from Winnipeg) in Jan 2000, expecting a son Oct 2001.
Not bad considering I was a lazy a*& delinquent in High School (with a 60.001 average).
I wonder what I'm going to say to our son when he begins 'misbehaving' in High School. Hmmm....

Since my last posting, I have attended our 20 year reunion and had a second child, my son Riley. Both experiences will be remembered for a very long time - at least that is what I will tell my son...
2001, on the other hand, has not been overly kind. My mother underwent surgery to remove her second leg and I was recently informed that my time with my current employer will be coming to an end at the end of October.
Therefore, I am now searching for a new job - if anybody has any ideas (in the H.R. field) I would appreciate hearing from you.

Emily is almost 6, Christian is almost 4 and Katie is 2. Life is busy and fun!
Dan Clark (Class of 81) SUE-DAN.CLARK AT SYMPATICO.CA
After RVR i went to Edmonton Alberta for 6 months work . My mom and brother Keith (grad 80) are out there. I then moved back with my Dad who had moved to Toronto and finished grade 12 and 13. Then went on to 3 1/2 years of colledge where I majored in smoking h... and drinking beer. I had already had a good background in these fields thanks to the" RVR, drink jungle juice out of large pop bottles till you puke" dances. I remember the first thing I was asked after I crossed the mote towards the doors of our RVR , was "would you like 3 for 5 ", I said yes and well the rest is history. I met an Italian 15 years ago,she stopped my smoking habit 14 years ago, and Sue and I have been married for thirteen years. We have a 7 year old boy David , a 2 year old boy mackenzie and a nice house in newmarket ontario. I have also been working in the lab at DRYVIT SYSTEMS, a stucco manufacturer in stoufville ontario for the last 13 year as quality control and color matcher. It was nice to find this site and look back at all the people I knew and see how they have turned out. I took my kid to a clinic in newmarket two years ago and the doctor was Ken Lai who now manages 4 clinics. He said Neil Blinco has a construction company in Ontario somewhere as well. Ken also bumped into Andrew Schoening. Well my wife is yelling at me to get beer for people coming over for Thanksgiving today (Oct 7 01). Thats a switch as she has been yelling for 13 years to stop drinkin beer (will never happen). That reminds me i must see if Ken Lai could lippo my gut for me. anyhow, later all and good luck. honey where are my kodiacs? is it cold out ? Should I wear the green or red lumberjack?

Just so all of you know, I no longer go by the name of "France" Lepage & it's been this way for the last 10 years. My name is officially and legally Frankie Lepage. Just in case you're wondering... I've always believed in "If you don't like something in your life, then change it if you can" So I did. Life too short anyways.
I hope I'll be able to see you at the Grad Reunion in 2002, (if I'm invited? ...I didn't graduated) and until then anyone who's interested can email me at

Darrell Martin (Class of 83) djandsuemartin AT earthlink.net
Thought I would take the time to update the limited information on me in these pages. After an unsuccessful academic career at Champlain, I ran away to see the world by joining the Navy. I've been a Naval Officer since '84 and have indeed seen the world. I returned in July of this year from a six-month deployment to that stable (not) part of the world known as the Middle East where, of course, Rob Cook (in HMCS WINNIPEG) and I managed to meet up. Now, as a result of the terror attacks of Sept 11, Canada's response has been to send five warships to that region of the world. One of those ships, HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN, is the ship that I was in which just returned from that area in July of this year, only to be sent again. Please remember the sacrifice that all of those men and women are making on your behalf, especially the sacrifice of the oft forgotten families of those sailors.
As of August 2001, I am stationed in Colorado Springs at the headquarters of NORAD where a bi-national team of Canadians and Americans are working to protect our nations against the threat of further terrorist attacks. I married in May of 1994 to my beautiful wife, Szus and we were blessed with a beautiful boy, Andrew, in January of 1996.

James Rouse (Class of 85) christopher AT rouse.ca
Although I left for the sunny ski slopes of Cranbrook, BC in 1982, I still fondly remember RVRHS and friends from Mount Bruno Elementary. I spent my high school years in Cranbrook and, after barely graduating, left home to attend beautiful Capilano College, set in a rainforest in North Vancouver. There I came into my own academically, and after two years transferred to
Queen's University in Kingston, where I graduated in Politics. I stayed on in Kingston to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a newspaper reporter. In 1996, drawn by the filthy lucre to be made in high technology, I changed careers entirely by simultaneously joining a software company and entering the Queen's Executive MBA program, whence I graduated in 1998. Since then, I've worked as a director or vice-president of marketing for Hummingbird Communications, Infocast Corporation, and Delano Technology Corporation, and now spend my time consulting to start-up, entrepreneurial, and emerging companies. I'm married to lovely Lois Rouse (née King) a skater with Ice Capades and other international shows and currently a model working in Toronto, where we make our home. I would love to hear from RVRHS and Mount Bruno Elementary friends.
Randy Dowden (Class of 86)
Currently living in Beaconsfield. After RVR attended Bishops and currently works for the Royal Bank doing cost analysis.

Update: October 2001. My legal name is still the same, but my "stage name" is now Alison Ruggiero. Mark & I are still enjoying the city life living in NDG (Monkland Village). I am a speech-language pathologist & I work at a school for children with intellectual impairments. I wouldn't be writing here if I weren't interested in hearing how my old high school friends are doing so feel free to get in touch! I occasionally have a dream about being back in RVR, and although it brings back great memories, I'm quite happy to have moved on! :)

I have worked in Advertising since arriving in Toronto, and am currently with Maclean's Magazine. I have been married for 5 years to Jeff Barlow and we have a beautiful 2 year old daughter named Alexandra. I hear about a few people from my RVR days and have had the pleasure of running into some at various work events. I keep in regular contact with Christine Anderson (who lives in Oakville, On) and Kevin McNicol in Montreal. (Updated September 2001)
Peter Harris (Class of 89) jackmanroad AT yahoo.com
Still a poet. Here in its entirety is the back cover bio from my recent book. A little silly, but ...
"Peter Harris has too much education to be so weird, BA MA, Université de Sherbrooke. It has been said that has a voice like the voice of God (if God woke up with a hangover in a dumpster in Sudbury). He’s been known to ruin every social occasion and consequently receives few invitations to dinner. A hardship for a poet. His second book “In Black Ink” is made up of the sorrow songs, the blues from life’s great heartbreak. Having written it, we fully expect him to be more cheerful from now on. Travel writing pays the bills that poetry and music don’t cover."

oh my... what a surreal experience! found myself smiling as i read through the names... not feeling old, but very wise... lol...
...twelve years have brought me to many places... i moved out to montreal after skool and went to french cegep
to study graphic arts... quit after two years and hitchhiked through the states to mexico and guatemala... lived and worked there
for about a year... came back through the states and travelled with social fairs and rock n' roll tours for a bit... came back to montreal and worked at
station 10 downtown for almost 3 years... got pregnant (still barefoot) and worked from home as a freelance artisan... grew my dreads out to my ass...
had a daughter *chaya* and stayed home for a bit... re-entered the work force as a service and sales coordinator in a print ad company
(had a fancy business card lol) concluded that the money wasn't worth the stress, and i quit to go back to skool full time, studying education at mcgill...
settled in the plateau, i haven't run into anyone in ages, but still find myself in otterburn park for the holidaze...

Many pass me on the streets and ignore me, still. It is sad to see that after high school and many have created their own lives that they are still the same arrogant people.
I am married and live a wonderful life. I've moved on, and am loved by all those who know me.
I feel sorry for all of you who bullied your way around then, and perhaps still now, you have no idea what kind of friend you would have had in me.
See you around, maybe - if you've actually "grown up".

Still in school. I have another 3 semesters at McGill in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently engaged to a superlatively wonderful chef, and we will be getting married on May 19th, 2002 in St-Hilaire. I teach CPR and first aid courses part time to make a few dollars, and I still say that Gordon Beck will be the first Millionaire among us grads.
Any other contenders?
