RVRHS Alumni May 02 Newsletter

Welcome to the May RVRHS Alumni newsletter.

If you have visited www.rvrhs.org recently you know that I have reopened the bookstore on the site. If you are planning to purchase a book from Amazon.com if you click through to them from the alumni site it will receive a small commission on the sale. Those wishing to be more direct in their support of the alumni site may do so by either joining PayPal (Click on the PayPal logo on the top right of the page) which will pay a small commission to the site for each new member who completes the joining process – and credit each new member with $5.00 in their personal PayPal account. If you are already a member of PayPal and wish to support the alumni site you can simply click on the donate button located on the site and make a direct contribution to the upkeep of the site.

Unfortunately since moving the site to it’s new domain at www.rvrhs.org the traffic on the site has fallen by almost 50%. Getting the word out about the domain change was made more difficult by the loss of the mailing list. If you have anyone on your mailing list who used to go to RVRHS please contact them and let them know the site is still open just relocated to a new address.

Once again I am making an appeal for more photographs of what you look like today. If you can provide a photo from yesteryear as well then all the better I will put both up on the site. You can email them in gif, jpg, png, tif or bmp format. Please do not send them embedded in an MS Word document as all such documents are deleted without being opened. If you wish to send photos by snail mail the address is:

Denis Bernicky
552 Prince Charles
Dorval, Qc H9P 1Z3

Do your siblings and family know about the RVRHS site yet? Drop them a line and let them know about us. The more the merrier.

I am looking for photographs of William McMaster High School before it became RVRHS. Anyone with something they can forward either by email or snail mail I would appreciate hearing from you.

That’s it for the shilling and the begging. Now onward to the updates.

Howard Pratt (Class of 73) is looking for pictures of the old railway station in St Bruno. If possible could anyone with pictures e-mail them to him at familypah AT shaw.ca

Bill Sarjeant (Class of 64) William McMaster High bill_sarjeant AT telus.net
Hi Folks:
Wow! I haven't thought about High School in years! Hope all the old cronies are well and have prospered over the years. I am presently residing in West Vancouver and have been married to the same great lady, Arlene, for almost 30 years! Where did the time go! I have two beautiful daughters, Lindsay, 18 and Jennifer, 13. Boy, is it ever payback time! I catch myself sounding like my parents everyday.
For the past 24 years, I have worked for Telus and my career has been very varied from work offshore to my present specialization in voice and data convergence. Days are long but still challenging and very interesting--I'm not ready to hang up my laptop yet!
My latest passion involves a restored '82 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle, which I continuously tinker with and shine. My wife says I like my bike better than her...there are days!
For those who have listed here from the pre '70 graduating classes, my sister Margo, who went to WMHS but graduated from CCHS (St. Lambert) now resides in Oakville and is married to Bill Wilson from Otterburn. They have recently retired and are grandparents-twice!
I will scan the site from time to time to see if any of the Old Timers are having a get together.
Cheers!
Bill
PS: I still talk to Don MacRae, Bernie McCarthey and Peter Calderhead.

Hi! Well I am living down in Northern Virginia for now with my daughter Kayla and working as a Graphic's Artist for a crazy, insane and completely fun marketing company. Still don't know what I want to be when I grow up but maybe one day soon I will be hit with divine inspiration. In the meantime, I try to enjoy life as it is. Since my son is still living in Otterburn (finishing his tour of RVR) I guess I will be home soon.

Worked overseas for 6 years in more countries than I can remember in Europe, Africa, and Asia doing oil exploration. I met my wife in Scotland and we got married in 96, which is when I started my own company designing and building small submarines! Cool stuff (www.seamagine.com). My company is based in Los Angeles California but my wife is based in Paris and London - We've been commuting between countries for the past 7 years! All the best to everyone!

Kathleen Jette (Class of 87) jette AT pcigeomatics.com
I'm a technical writer for a software company in the geomatics industry in Gatineau, Quebec. Last year my husband and I left Montreal and bought a house in Ottawa. We have a twelve-year-old daughter, Ashley, and a two-year-old son, Devin. As you can imagine, I have my hands full with the melodrama of my pre-teen's life and the vivacious energy of my rambunctious son.

Mike Lapointe (Class of 88) foxmarin AT lycos.com
Well a lot has changed since high school, went to school and got a nursing degree, got married and had 2 children (a boy named Marin who's 6 and a girl named Alexandria whose 5). Unfortunately married life didn't work out for me too well, and I got divorced in 2000. After high school I moved around a lot and finally ended up in Ottawa where I work as a rigger for the major cellular companies. I also went to school and got a degree in nursing (which I don't use). I would love to hear from anyone from high school, so drop me a line.

Christopher Cockburn (Class of 89) - Deceased
This from Philip Cockburn: I would like the following info added to the profile of Christopher Cockburn.

After graduating from RVR, Chris moved to Shawinigan to play Quebec Junior Major Hockey for the Cataracts. As things did not go as planned, he moved back to Beloeil to attend Champlain College and studied Business Admin. During his graduating year at Champlain, Chris died in a tragic car accident on October 11, 1991. Family members can be contacted at lornaeic AT yahoo.ca

Jennifer Heffernan (Class of 93) jennifer.heffernan AT clarica.com
Hello, hello all! I can't believe how fast this year is going. I've run into a few ex-RVR's lately, so here's the skinny. On St-Patrick's Day (from what I remember, hee, hee!) I bumped into Natasha Filteau who seemed to be doing very well and has a beautiful 5-year-old daughter, she was with Anne Lapointe and Andrew Powell (Class of 94). And just the other week-end, while I was chillin' in Ottawa having some drinks at some nasty college bar, who do I find? Ryan Payne (who's finishing his education degree at University of Ottawa) and Paul Charrette, who was in town visiting Ryan. They both looked happy and healthy. As for myself, still living downtown with my chum, still working at Clarica for now, Sun Life just bought Clarica, so I'll probably be changing my e-mail address again sometime soon. Be happy to hear from anyone and everyone! Cheers!

Julie Côté (Class of 94) mapetitejulie AT hotmail.com
I'm living in a nice town house in mid-Montreal, with my boy friend and son, 3-1/2 years old Maxim. Working as a Secretary in a high-tech company. I still like to draw, but now it’s a hobby. Taking pictures for fun, you might see my face here and there on the net :)... Waiting for the RVRHS reunion some day. I've heard that the school closed a couple of years ago... sad! People don’t be shy, give news!!!

Sebastien Letourneau (Class of 95) magicbird AT hotmail.com

I now live in Rosemont and we're planning on moving together next year. Not planning on returning to the south shore any time soon! Nah-huh! So who's planning on organizing our 10 yr reunion?!? Let me know! Take it easy everyone!
