RVRHS Alumni May 2001 Newsletter

Well I finally made it, the May newsletter.  I had hoped to report on the Class of 81 reunion, but alas a series of coincidences prevented me from attending and taking the photos that I wanted to get.  With any luck someone who was there took photos and can provide me with a few and a a description of the event.  That's really about it for now I hope that you all have a good summer and that someone from the Class of 72, 82 and 92 steps forward and tries to organize reunions for Victoria Day weekend next year.

Wendy Frail (Class of 78) wendyfrail AT videotron.ca
I worked at Royal Trust from '78-'83 in Finacial Services. Married in '84. Did the "housewife' thing and suffered with agoraphobia for almost 20 years. Alienated a lot of people during those years because I was too embarrassed to talk about "my problem". No one knew what was wrong with me! Once I realised that it was nothing to be ashamed of, I gradually started to talk to people about it and finally overcame it. It was a long struggle, but now life in wonderful. I was separated in '97. Divorced in '99 but still good friends with my ex. I bought my house in '99 and now living with my partner, Brian Rankin (the greatest guy), who attended RVR for about 3 days!!! I have one daughter, Alexa, who is the sweetest kid, but the pre-teen hormones are starting to kick in...YIKES! I hit the big 4-0 last year and I can hardly believe that it has been 23 years since leaving RVR. Time really does "fly". From '98-'00 I worked as an assistant/teacher at a pre-school, and in February 2000 I started working at Marché Lambert in St. Bruno, where we live, pursuing my dream career....Cahier! I would love to hear from you.

I am now living in Ontario. I work in Dorval for Bell. Life is good.

Sharon Smeall (Class of 80) smeall AT nuance.com
After graduating from RVR I went to work for the Royal Bank of Canada for 10 years. I met an old classmate in December 1981 on his way to an AC/DC concert, who didn't graduate from RVR but some might remember - Dino DiCarlo from St. Bruno. We were married in 1984 (so young) and it is now going on 17 years of marital bliss! We live in Brossard with our two sons Steven (14 years old going on 18) and Mark (11 years old). We both worked for Nortel Networks for almost 10 years and then went on to bigger and better things when they closed their offices (on Nun's Island) almost 2 years ago. I am now working as an office manager for Nuance Communications (software development company downtown) and Dino is an account manager at a company called TAT Technologies. We keep very busy with the boys and their hockey and soccer schedules and are loving every minute of it. We couldn't make the reunion last year due to family commitments but it sure looked like fun. Maybe for the 25 year reunion! Would love to hear from anyone.

Mimi L'Italien (Class of 80) lindemarb AT msn.com
My family and I immigrated to the United States in 1982. We departed the plane in sunny Phoenix, Arizona October of that year. I had a short and very disappointing career in hair styling and then decided to go back to school. Eight years later, I graduated from Arizona State University. I'm now teaching mentally retarded children in a low-income neighborhood. In my 20 years in the U.S., I've lived in California and Virginia. I'm now divorced and have no children. I do have a dog, Marble and 2 cats, Linear and Delilah. All of my siblings live in the Phoenix area. My parents live in Las Vegas.

Flavia Francescutti (Class of 81) VANILLAFLAV AT hotmail.com

I have pursued a career in the travel/hospitality industry which has me currently employed with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as Social Host. Unfortunately I won't be at the reunion...I'll be sailing in the Mediterranean...life is sweet!

After RVR I attended Dawson College and became an RN. I moved to Vancouver in 1987 (am still here) and eventually obtained a BA. I've been working as an RN since I graduated but have been taking courses forever in just about everything trying to find my niche. Finally, a few years ago I discovered my true passion and that is in Acting. For the last 2 years I've been gradually working my way in the industry. So far, I've done theatre(Fringe Festival), videos, independent films, print work and more recently a TV pilot (airing in Sept). If anyone is in contact with Terry Slade or Andre Rivard, give my regards.

I did some acting in TV and a really forgettable straight-to-video movie, but mostly I worked at the Montreal Bistro in Toronto, where I happened to meet my husband, Michael. He works in the film industry as a location manager, and he is working on developing his own projects. We were married in 1990 and we have three beautiful daughters, Sara, 7, Rachel, 5, and Rebecca 19 months. I have been fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom since Sara was born. I will be in St. Bruno the weekend of the reunion, however, I am not sure if I will be attending the reunion. My father passed away this past January, and the memorial service may be on the same weekend.

Doug Craig (Class of 83) dcraig AT uwinnipeg.ca
Howdy. Hope everybody is doing well. I guess I'll take my turn to say what I've
been up to since graduating. Like practically everyone else, I went to CEGEP for 2 years.
After that I went to Mount Allison University (in Sackville NB) for 3 years to get my
undergraduate degree (biochem). From there I went to Halifax NS for 4 years and a bit to
do graduate studies (also biochem). I met my wife-to-be, Kerry, there. After Halifax we
moved to Winnipeg for a year and were married there (Sept 1993). After a year in Winnipeg
we went to Edmonton AB for 3 years and a bit. Moved back to Winnipeg in June 1997
where I work at the University of Winnipeg as a chemistry professor. Our daughter,
Alexandra, was born here in the 'Peg in November 1997. Most fathers think that their child
is most beautiful one that the world has ever seen....the difference is....mine actually is.
For kicks (pardon the pun) I've been training in martial arts, as does my wife, for what
seems like almost forever, mostly karate but also tried aikido for a few years. I do have
a web page at www.uwinnipeg.ca/~dcraig  but it's mostly full of boring chemistry stuff.
I would be great to here from any of you.
