RVRHS Alumni March 02 Newsletter

We start off this month’s newsletter on a sad note. For anyone who played football, baseball or softball in Otterburn Park you probably came under the tutelage of Gerry Lawless Sr. either directly or indirectly at some point in time. Gerry has been very sick recently. This past summer he was diagnosed with Cancer of the colon and liver. Aggressive chemo treatments were begun after surgery found that the colon cancer had attached itself to his pelvis and they could not remove it and there were too many lesions on his liver.

At this time, he is very weak and the prognosis is unknown. He was recently admitted to Hôpital Charles Lemoyne Phone: (450)466-5000 because of severe dehydration and other complications arising from the cancer and its treatment.

We have some new additions to the RVRHS Arts page in the photography section. Patrick Leroux’s crisp action photography has been added to the site. It is worth a look.

Would you like to contribute to the upkeep of RVRHS.ORG? You can do so by making a donation from your PayPal account by going to RVRHS.ORG and clicking on the Visa/Mastercard Donate logo. If you don't have PayPal you can still help out by activating a PayPal account. If you create a PayPal account by clicking on the PayPal logo on the right hand side of the page PayPal will make a contribution when/if you activate the account - to do this you have to type in a code that will only come to you on your next credit card statement. Then and only then will your account be activated and a donation made. When you activate your account PayPal will deposit $5.00 in your new account as a bonus for creating a new account. If you want to donate that to the site it would be more than appreciated. OK enough shilling for now. :)

The URL for the RVRHS site is still good, but the new URL is http://www.rvrhs.org  - eventually you will not be able to access the site via GeekStreet so you might want to update your URL now.

I am asking for anyone who can to put out word about the site to former RVRHS students - especially to siblings to please spread the word. Also I am very interested in getting more pictures on the site so if you have pictures in electronic format (jpg, gif, tif, bmp) feel free to forward them to headgeek AT geekstreet.com. If you would rather mail hard copies to me to scan the address is:

Ian Stuart Rowley (Class of 74) isrowley_03 AT hotmail.com
Well hello everyone, it has been a very long time. Many, many things have gone under the bridge since we used to take chairs out to the Funerals of locals, and spent time driving from Tavern to Tavern. Unbelievable that any of us ever got out of there alive, we should feel very lucky just to be alive after all the crazy (stupid) things that we did. But, then it wouldn’t be high school would it? I hope that everyone who is left is happy and healthy and my condolences to all of those that have passed away.

Cathy Badger (Class of 77) crinkley AT ns.sympatico.ca
I was married to Craig Crinkley in 1980 after he graduated from McGill and had entered the world of “radio news”. He worked in several private stations around Ontario until we moved to PEI. He hosted a radio talk show there as well as read morning news and became a household name in the area. We had three beautiful children on PEI the last of whom was born just as he made the leap to CBC 14 years ago. From senior editor in Charlottetown he moved on to be location manager in Sydney N.S. and then here to Halifax to become plant manager. He passed away in February of 1997 quite suddenly of a massive coronary while playing soccer. The kids and I have stayed here and continued to thrive. Our eldest is a boy, Ian 19 and in his second year at Acadia, Our middle is a girl, Allison 18 and in her first year at Acadia and our youngest is Stewart in grade 8 and living here with me.

He was a great dad and husband and we still miss him and would love to share memories with some high school friends.

Michaël Gazier (Class of 80) 24/02/65 mgazier AT magma.ca
Michaël has been in the Ottawa area for 16 years. Following an engineering degree at McGill he did a part time masters (electronics) at Carleton in Ottawa. Fourteen years working at BNR/Nortel in advanced technology and in product groups were enough, so he quit his job as senior manager and advisor in system and network architecture to go spin his luck with a startup as principal architect. He continues to enjoy traveling, camping/canoeing, mountain and road biking, playing guitar, the arts, philosophy, working on the house, his cats, and enjoying discussions and tale telling with friends. He is still with his beautiful brainy brunette partner and looks forward to having kids before retiring.

Chris Carignan (Class of 86) arrow2 AT telusplanet.net
Just surfed through and found it nice to see all the names I went to school with. Been in the air force since 86, joined a couple of months after the grad. I did an 8 yr. posting in Trenton Ont. were I was doing first line maintenance on the Hercules and now I've been in Cold Lake Alberta for the last 8 working on f-18s. The forces have been good to me, giving me lots of traveling, guess I'm in for the long haul. I have a 5 yr old boy named Shayne, he started French kindergarten this year. You know after 16yrs in the forces you get to meet lots of people and one thing that surprises me is the amount of people that went to R.V.R. lots of us out there. Anyway if anybody feels like dropping me a line please feel free to, it would be nice to hear from those old names.

Then I decided to join the RCMP, which was something I always wanted to do. I went to the training Academy in Regina where I met my wife Chantal (also an RCMP Officer) and graduated from there in September 1998. I then got posted to Blackville New Brunswick where I stayed for two years before getting transferred to Summerside PEI, which is where I am now. My wife and I bought a nice home near the water and are expecting our first child at the end of June. I still keep in touch with a few people but have lost touch with many more.
