RVRHS Alumni May 02 Newsletter
RVRHS
Alumni June 02 Newsletter
It just occurred to me that
some of you probably don't know that all that appears in the monthly newsletters
are new site postings not the updates. Updates on email addresses and personal
info are just done on site and not part of the monthly mailing. To keep up to
date bookmark http://www.rvrhs.org.
When you send in update
requests (like for a change of E-Mail address or an addendum to your current
posting) could you please also include your grad year makes it easier
to find you.
A hearty thank you to the
generous donation from Ainslie Dowd (Class of 80) as well as a donation from
Julie LaRose to help offset the cost of keeping the RVRHS.ORG site up and running.
Howard Pratt of Class of
73 is looking for pictures of the old railway station in St Bruno. If you have
any please drop him a line at familypah AT shaw.ca.
Paul Gagné (Class
of 83) & Florence Modeste (Class of 86) would like everyone to know that
EARTHQUAKE (The Best Rock Band on the South Shore) will be performing for a
Canada Day Party at the Otterburn Legion on Sunday, June 30, 2002, 9:00 PM.
No tickets required!
As always I am asking anyone
and everyone who is aware of the RVRHS.ORG to pass along the information to
anyone they went to school with. If you have photos of yourself then or now
that you would like posted on the site you can email them to me headgeek AT geekstreet.com
in just about any format and I will get them onto the site. If you prefer to
use snail mail please include a stamped and addressed return envelop so I can
send the photos back to you once they are scanned. My mailing address is:
Denis Bernicky
552 Prince Charles
Dorval, Qc H9P 1Z3
On a new and slightly different
front I am looking for photographs of billboards that were painted onto the
sides of buildings paint on brick. If you have anything like that I would
appreciate hearing from you my email is headgeek AT geekstreet.com.
Gale McDonald (Class of
62 - William McMaster) apalmer AT purefishing.com
Just found this site and recognized most of the names, i.e. Bob, Carolyn, Jim
and Pat. I married Andy
Palmer from Otterburn in
1966 and we lived on Spiller Street in Otterburn until 1974 when we bought a
farm in St. Jean Baptiste. We had two children (Shawn who is now a father of
twin 2 year olds Kaitlyn and Cassandra - and Angela who still lives with us).
I retired from CIL/ICI/Orica in 1998 (got a great package) and we moved to Magog
in the Eastern Townships. Andy is still working from home in the fishing industry
as you can see by our email address. While Andy is working I spent most of my
time on the golf course in the summer and curling and bowling in the winter
(isn't life great). I am hoping to get to Otterburn in August (for the reunion)
and will get to see some of the "old gang".
Please keep in touch.
Leonard Garnet Carter (Class
of 70) Deceased
My name is Cheryl Lafleur
chemar AT nbnet.nb.ca I'm writing about my Uncle Leonard Garnet Carter. I'm his
Oldest Niece on the Carter side. I was searching on the net about him. I guess
you can say I really miss him so much. When I came across your website. So I
thought I'd let you know about him so you can include his life on your website.
To let others know to. I'm sorry I have to be the one to let you know this.
But I figured if he had any friends from the past that I should let them know.
I just wanted to let you know that he passed May 7, 2002. At his home in Squamish
BC and was laid to rest by his mother Mildred Carter In Port Elgin New Brunswick.
The memorial service was on May 14, 2002. He would of been 51 on July 13. He
was working a CN for years. He prided himself on the fact that he had to 2 Children.
He has one Daughter Sabrina 16 years old that lives in Ontario. Also has a son
of the age 11 Jacob who lives with his mom now in Squamish BC. My Uncle has
a Father, 2 sister & husbands, 2 Brothers And Wives. Also has 9 Nieces and
Nephews on the Carter side. My Uncle was a man who's laughter was one of the
things we will all miss very much! He loved to play pranks on us. Just so he
could make us scream with laughter! . He also loved planes and Hummers. He loved
to watch football. He was a man with friends and Family that loved him dearly.
As I tell you this I feel this longing for him, but I know he's with my grandmother
now. He's at peace. I'm really glad that I had 37 years to know my uncle! He
was a wonderful man in my eyes and always will be. Well anyways this is really
hard for me to write this. So I'll let you go for know. Please write me back
I'd sure love to hear from you. Anyways thank you so much for letting me tell
you about my Uncle Lenny. Take Care
David Forbes (Class of 71)
dforbes AT formark.com
After RVRHS, I went to McGill (B Comm '76), worked a couple of years in Montreal,
then went to the University of Western Ontario (MBA '81). After Western, I joined
Digital Equipment Corp. and worked in a number of different roles, a product
line comptroller and product manager, until Digital went into its death spiral.
In 1994 I started my own
company Formark Consulting Ltd (http://www.formark.com) - which
can be described as a software development / systems integration boutique. Most
of the time it is fun...
On the personal front, in 1981 I married Joy Chamberlain, and we have two kids,
Andrew ('84) and
Kristin ('86). So we are
caught up in the excitement of having two teenagers... Since 1981, we have lived
in Kanata Ont.
On a memory lane detour what ever happened to the Pohlars?

Carolyn and Elinor. I keep busy teaching anyone under the age of 20 (or even
over) how to play violin. In 2002 - 2003 we will be on sabbatical in Israel;
in case you are wondering, Ronnie is a professor at McGill and we are all Jewish!

Susan Oulton (Class of 73)
soulton AT hfx.eastlink.ca
After leaving RVR in '73 I came to N.S. to go to school, returning in '76 for
still more school. I was married in '79 and we returned to the Maritimes in
the early 80's. The marriage didn't last, but my love affair with N.S. is still
going strong today. I live with my boyfried of the last 10 years, our 5 year
old son, Dougie, and my 3 kids from my first marriage, Chris, 22, Victoria (Tori)
18, and Lindsay, l7. I worked for the Federal Government for several years,
then was basically a stay at home Mom until recently returning to work part
time. I have too much to do at home with all these kids! I am looking forward
to the next stage in my life - Empty Nest Syndrome - with a 5 year old it could
be quite a while!
I would love to hear from any of my old RVR friends, it's been so long!

a great charity that fulfills the wishes of kids with life threatening illnesses.
Would love to know about any reunions coming up and hear from any old chums

After leaving Quebec in 1977, I moved to Vancouver and attended UBC for 2 years.
I then moved to Edmonton and graduated from U of A in 1981 with a BSc in Agriculture.
I have worked for the University of Alberta and Alberta Agriculture as a research
technologist. After a few years at home with my children, I am now back in the
workforce as a lab technician in the science department at Salisbury Composite
High School in Sherwood Park, near Edmonton. Funny how just the smell of a high
school can
take me back all those years to RVR! I am married with 2 children, ages 8 and
10, and live on an acreage near Sherwood Park. I would love to hear from any
of my old classmates, particularly any in this area.

Science. I now compete in marathons and Adventure races in my spare time. Love
to hear from anyone who
remembers me.
Paul Talley (Class of 77)
paulktalley AT yahoo.com
Update 6/02. Paul disappeared from the Montreal scene in May of 2001. Since
then he has been sighted in various locations throughout North America and Europe,
including Toronto, Atlanta, New York, Boston and Paris. Some informed sources
believe that he is (or at least was) operating out of New Orleans. Others claim
that he has been using Columbia, South Carolina as a base of operations as recently
as May of 2002. This is supported by numerous reports of sightings in the Carolinas
and Georgia. However, some officials believe that he has shifted his home base
to Phoenix, Arizona where a man fitting his description wearing hiking boots
and a loud Hawiian shirt was seen reprimanding an American tourist for sewing
a Canadian flag on his backpack at the airport.
Officials from various local,
state, provincial, national and international law enforcement agencies would
like to question him in connection with the Tupelo Toad Licking Scandal, which
some claim will make the ENRON scam look trivial. When contacted at his home
in Toronto, close friend and longtime associate Chris Anderson (RVRHS '77) would
only say, "Look, when he blows into town it usually involves a lot of alcohol
and power tools. Okay? Then he blows out again and I have to deal with the neighbours."

Hey everybody ! Seems so weird talking to you after all these years. Couldn't
imagine back then that I'd be living in Upstate New York with dear husband and
2 miraculous children ( boy-14 mths & girl 3.5 years ) I did the Dawson
College Fine Arts thing but it just wasn't what I had hoped for. R.V.R.H.S.
had the best Art program & I supposed it spoiled me. Perhaps I wasn't as
serious as I could have been either. I then traveled via thumb across Canada
and throughout the U.S. where I finally set up shack in New York. Through the
years I have experienced what life can truly offer. That money is only a
superficial stage curtain in which we tend to hide ourselves behind. When the
inside is the same as the outside & the outside reflects the inside...then
we are one. These days I am totally consumed in computer imaging and who knows
where this will take me. In the past I mostly did the freelance Art thing while
waiting on tables & it's been a great ride so far! I bless each & every
one of you who stayed in Quebec. Can't imagine how you can put up with the politics.
Go Canada ! If you think you want to chat you can e-mail me at lwsfrye AT mybizz.net

Hello everyone!
I thought I would let you know a little about what is new in my life. After
Champlain, I worked for a little while at odd jobs and ended up going to the
University of Manitoba to play some football for the Bisons. I lived in Winnipeg
for six years and met up with Eric Grignon for a while and we had a blast together.
I also played football in France for a year and moved back to St.Bruno in 98.
I am now married to my wonderful wife Cheryl-Ann and we have two beautiful children;
Nickolas who will be 7 in July and Meghan is 28 months. Cheryl-Ann and I got
married in Jamaica in 99 and I couldn't have asked for a better person in my
life. Football is still going strong in the family as Nickolas started playing
last year for the Barons and I help coach the little ones. I now work for Air
Canada and own a small handyman and graffiti removal company named Van-Go which
also keep me very busy. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you get a chance
as it would be great to hear from all of you again and about what is new in
your lives. Until next time...Mike

It's interesting to see all the names again and to discover what actually happened
to some of you. After RVR, I worked on the home farm for three years and decided
to go back to school. I graduated from McGill in December 1994 as an agricultural
engineer and went on to work as a service rep. for an American farm machinery
company. I did that for a year and a half and in 1996 I bought half of the home
farm which is in the St-Hyacinthe area. At the same time I went on to work as
a service manager for the US and Canada for a Finish tractor company. I am still
working for this company but as a sales manager for Eastern Quebec and Northern
New Brunswick. I got married in 1999 to a girl I met at McGill. We have a boy
and a girl ( Timothy, 26 months and Rebecca, 1 yr) and are expecting a third
in September. Feel free to write.

Wow! 16 years since graduation and sometimes it still feels like yesterday especially
since some of the people who I've seen lately from our graduating class have
hardly aged! I graduated from Concordia in '91 with a B. Comm and went on to
work at Standard Life a few weeks later. I changed over to the investment area
of Standard Life in '93 of and have been working here ever since. I was promoted
to Money Market Manager in '99 and I work with a great bunch of people. I can't
complain since I come to work each day and I'm guaranteed that someone will
make me laugh! Obtained my CFA designation in 2000 and happy to finally have
the spring free of studying! I was never the sporty type but I've found since
I've gotten older (hopefully wiser too!) that I enjoy sports more and more.
Took up golf 4 years ago although I probably won't be able to get very good
until I retire. Currently I'm training to be in the dragon boat races at the
Olympic Basin in July. Look out for the "Trojan Dragons" - No, I did
not pick the name!!! As you may be able to tell I'm single and I don't have
any kids and for now I'm making the most of it. I've taken the time to do some
travelling this past year. I'd be happy to hear from anyone in our graduating
class, especially those of you with a great sense of humour!

Hi everyone! After high
school I went to Champlain for one year in creative arts. I then switched to
Photography at Dawson for I year, I then worked for a year and a half. January
1992 I moved to Nanaimo B.C. to attend Professional Cook Training at Malaspina
College, where I graduated with honors. More importantly I met Mike Dunlop,
my husband of seven years. January 1993 we moved to his home town of Victoria
B.C. April of 1995 we were married. November 1998 we had our first son, Daniel.
October 2000 we had our second son, Cameron. Currently I am a stay at home mom.
Mike is the chef of a large hotel in town.
Lately I have been thinking
back to high school lot and have been trying to track down those I was friends
with in school. Thanks to this web page I have just about done that! I also
would like that in 2008 we cold have our 20 year reunion and have most, if not
all our class there. I know that is 6 years away but I think that if we all
work together and spread work about his web page to all those we keep in touch
with, when it comes time to organize the party it will be easier!!
I'm in contact with Gitanjali
M., Francine C., Carol Ann B. (89), Robbie F.( 87), Graeme D., Sharon K., Karen
F., Christine M., Chris M., Indira P., Valerie S., and Richard V. A few others

I would have graduated the same year as everyone here, but unfortunatly I moved
to Ajax,Ontario in '89. After a 7 year stint over there, I decided I had had
enough and decided to move back "home". Since then I have been working
as a chef or cook, depending on situation, around the south shore. I am currently
working at the Modavie retaurant in the Old Port in Montreal. I just celebrated
the fifth birthday of my wonderful son, Darren, and am getting married October
05 2002. What can I say, I've always done things backwards. Just ask some of
our former teachers. It's good to see how you have all come along in your new
lives after graduation. Good luck to you all!
