RVRHS Alumni June 00
Newsletter
First I would like to thank those of you who have been buying books from Amazon.com for using the
click through on my site - getting ever closer to that Wacom graphics
tablet. The Class of 80 reunion went very well. The total costs ran
about twenty dollars a head for 90 people. We managed to cover it.
The whole project took about three months to arrange and we would have had a
better turnout if we had started planning at least six months previous to that.
And now for the updates for June.

After living in Connecticut and Calgary for the last 6 years, my husband (Peter Da Silva, grad of McDonald Cartier '76),our 3 children (Steven, Amy, Katie) and I have returned to "La Belle Province". We are living in St. Bruno, our old stomping grounds, once again. The town hasn't changed much. We have just registered Amy at RVR for next year. What a strange feeling touring the old school with her. It feels the same and the school still looks great. Steven attends McDonald Cartier. He seems to like the larger
school. (The Zoo, as Peter calls it.) Katie, our youngest is at Courtland Park School. My email address is
momdasilva AT yahoo.com . I would love to hear from any of the old gang.

Robert Chenier (Class of 80) robert.chenier AT 3web.net
Here's some information to amend and complete my personal info. My
Engineering degree is in Civil Engineering and I did some M.Eng courses but not an MBA. I worked briefly for CN Rail in the engineering planning department while in school, but was a victim of the scourge of contemporary corporate culture, the downsize, and I was unable to renew my contract after leaving school. I worked for HMV to earn the money to move out to Vancouver, and after some initial health problems (very polluted out here), I got a job with CCRA (formerly Revenue Canada). That pretty well brings you up to date.
Hilde K. Johannessen (Class of 80) hildek AT home.com
My parents divorced in 1980 and my mom and younger brother moved back to Norway. I relocated to Toronto in 1983, took marketing at Ryerson and worked with the Norwegian Trade Council. At 25, I got homesick and I also felt it was time to get some higher education, so I left Canada and went back to Norway. In Norway I studied at the Norwegian School of Economics as well as working part time for an offshore oil company (even got to visit some of the oilrigs in the North Sea). I lived there for 2 1/2 years, did some traveling and skiing in Europe until I felt it was time to return back to Toronto. Worked for 7 years on Bay Street for a reinsurance brokerage firm until they downsized and I was laid off. My father had in the meantime moved from Otterburn to Halifax and since I received a nice severance package, I decided to pack up my car and try Halifax out. Lived in Halifax for a year and worked on the Sable Offshore Project (implementation of their Management System). I also did a lot of scuba diving as well as helping a family friend in her catering business (Scanway Catering). I really loved living in Halifax, however, since I had left my future husband (tying the knot in July - oh no does this mean I am tied down???) behind in Toronto, I was once again drawn back to TO. I presently live in the upper beaches area and work from home with my future hubby in developing our Reinsurance Consulting business. I have no children.....yet
Lorna Snell (Class of 80)
I left RVR in 1978 one year prior to graduation bound for Toronto. After graduating from high school in Georgetown, I studied accounting and received my securities license. I worked in the financial industry for 10 years mostly with RBC/Dominion Securities in Toronto. I met my husband, an investment banker in 1990 and we now have 2 children (girl
4, boy 2), and live on 400 acres northwest of Toronto. We now own a 1500-sow unit and farm 400 acres. I still play a lot of soccer and squash. My e-mail address is
las_20032 AT yahoo.com.
Wayne Sykes (Class of 80) wsykes AT mcdonnellhaynes.com
I managed to survive the trauma of moving to the suburban waists of Toronto, in 1980, by moving down town a year or two latter. I like urban blight! I've pretty much stayed focused on being an advertising type Art Director, but I really prefer the odd jobs I get as an illustrator. Maybe I'll do that full time, when I grow up. I have one wife and one
kid. I don't listen to Boston, don't drink 50 and have nothing important to offer on the subject of disco.
Pete Papadopoulos (Class of 80) avatar11 AT sympatico.ca
Kim Blackie (Class of 81?) akgibbons AT sprint.ca
I live in Greenfield Park and recently had a home built (outgrew our current house) and will be moving in two weeks (therefore, I can't make it to the reunion...packing is a drag!). I travel quite a bit these days for P&WC, attend Concordia at night, and try to find some time to be a mom and wife in between!!! I married a terrific guy (met at P&WC) and our kids keep us hopping! My son Matthew started Kindergarten this year, and Lauren rules her daycare "le boss" and "la tournade" they call her! Both my parents are now deceased (Dad in 1986, Mom in 1995) and I understand that they've named a street after my father in Otterburn, somewhere near Ozias Leduc and Connaught. He would be so proud. Life has been absolutely great and with the kids and Andy, it's only getting better!
I've totally lost touch with my friends from school and would love to hear
from them. My mailing address is:

Where does one start after 15 years? OK, first of all, I did not continue school after RVR. (I know you are all shocked)! I did work, very hard too, I now work at a shipping company as a manager for logistics, got married in '92 but caught that 7 year itch and am now divorced. I have a beautiful boy named Terry, his is 5 years old. I still hang out with Kim Laekas (21 years and now still counting). We are 32 now but still have the energy of 18-year olds- minds like ones too at times. I used to live in Brossard but moved back to Bruno. I really hope to hear from some of you. My email is
maria_321 AT excite.com or if you have ICQ 8333271.
Chris Darlington (Class of 85) chris.darlington AT sympatico.ca
It's been a long time , I have a beautiful wife named Chantal and two happy young boys 1.5 and 4 years old. We live on a large piece of land in the Laurentians , I'm neck deep into a hybridization program of appendaged ( space age ) tall bearded irises and use the land to line out seedlings for possible introduction. I'm a process development technician at a large chemical development facility in Montreal by day and a dedicated parent/ husband/ cat owner and gardener the rest of the time. The pace of my life is frantic sometimes but things have never been better.
Liese Averbach (Coroy)(Class of 85) aver AT sprint.ca
I went to RVR during 82 and 83, and left because my Dad moved us to Ottawa. I certainly remember many of you. I would love to hear from some old RVRers and rekindle some old memories.
I am currently working and living in Toronto. I went onto earn my B.A. at the university of waterloo in English. I went into publishing and then decided that that wasn't the life for
me. So I packed my bags, sold all of my belongings and moved to the Canary Islands for a couple of years.
After I got tired of the sun, and the limited technology, I decided to return to Canada, and have been living and working in the Information Technology field. (Funny things you do with your English degree!)
Unfortunately, I am separated. On the bright side I have an 85-pound German Shepard, Chance. We travel and hike, through southwestern Ontario, and New York State.
I'd love to hear from you guys! It has been too long.
Christopher Price (Class of 90) stone_soup AT hotmail.com

Katie Leggitt (Class of 2000 Current Student) serenity AT istar.ca
I'm student at RVR in grade 11. My brother let me know about your site so I had to check it out. I saw a few of your pictures of the school and noticed the one with the sign on it in A block. Just to let you know, A and E block now belong to the Patriotes school board. That's the sign you saw. That part of the school is Adult Ed. It's been like this for the past two years. Inside the school has changed a lot. The Adult Ed took over our former student lounge, so we had the lockers in the girls locker bay removed and placed in other parts of the school. That's our new student lounge. We did this renovation this year. The other locker bay no longer belongs to us either. We are a much smaller school now because the French side left last year. So we're a school of only 480 students. I'm on the student council, so if you have any questions about this "new version of RVR" feel free to email me.
Melissa (Class of 2001) missyb1tch AT falla.videotron.net
Just to tell you that Richelieu valley is closing its doors to the Students and now their turning the school into an adult learning center.
