RVRHS Alumni June 99 Newsletter

June is here, and summer has brought on some doldrums vis a vis new RVRHS info. Who wants to sit infront of a computer during the summer. This leaves the site missing class lists from 1971, 72, 73, 83, 84 and from 1991 onward. Slow but sure.

As always I remind everyone - if you want to get an invitation to the big reunion in Y2K you have to send your snail mail address to Frances Howe McKechnie at AMckech563 AT aol.com  . That is the only way to get an invite.

I have been reduced from begging to pleading for additional class lists and photos to add to the site. Some times a photo helps to jog the memory so think about it. Any info or photos you want to forward you can either e-mail to me or send snail mail to:

Now time for the updates.

Fiona Randerson (Class of 80)

After finishing at Richelieu Valley, Fiona attended CEGEP briefly, then went
on to get a degree in early childhood education from Ryerson in Toronto.
She followed that up with a degree in social work, and in 1986 she married
Ainslie Dowd (who would have been in the class of '80 if his parents hadn't
forcibly relocated him to Ontario after grade 10...).

As a married couple, Ainslie was puttering around the Atlantic ocean in the
Navy's submarine service, and Fiona worked in Halifax at the Canadian
National Institute for the Blind. In 1989, the intrepid pair gave up their
sinecures and moved to Victoria so that Ainslie could attend Law School at
UVic. Fiona supported the pair as a government functionary, first with the
provincial Ministry of Health, and later as a licensing officer for
daycares. Ainslie finished school in 1991, and has been practising family
law since then. Fiona stopped working when the first child, Harrison, was
born in 1993. This was followed by Marina (born in 1995), and Fiona has had
the good fortune to be a stay at home mother since then.

The Randerson/Dowds left Victoria in 1996, and moved to Quesnel, B.C., in
the middle of British Columbia. Ainslie liked the rural life, but Fiona
preferred civilization, and so the duo returned to Victoria in June of 1999.
They can be reached at 570 Land's End Road, Sidney, B.C. V8L 5K9 , or (250)
655-9629.

David Walker (Class of 82) dwalker AT cfqc.com
It's been a Long time! I am living in Campbellton NB after 5 years in
Winnipeg. I am working for a shortline Railway. I got married in Antigua
in 94 and have one son named William, he will be 3 in October.

Meriel Randerson
(RVR class of 84?) is getting married in May, 2000, to David Critchlow, who
is also an RVR grad (1979?). Meriel and David are currently shacked up in
Kemptville, Ontario, where he works as a conservation officer and she works
as an occupational therapist and/or psychologist (she's positively flush
with degrees).

Robert Maurice (Class of 90) rob_maurice AT hotmail.com
After I graduated in 1990, I did a year of Engineering at a college outside of Philadelphia. After which I attended Queen's University in Kingston and completed an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering in 1995. That lead to a full time job as a Project Manager for a construction firm in Timmins, Ontario. After many days of freezing my ass off or being almost run over by out of control machinery, I opted for a less dazzling career and enrolled at the University of Waterloo in Computer Science. After completing my second degree in 1999 I am now working full time in Waterloo. I still keep in contact with most of the old high school gang and am the best man at Chris Cooke's wedding in September of 1999

Elizabeth Vasalos (Class of 84) Vassilas AT msn.com
After RVRHS I did the CEGEP and University route and now I am presently a happily married full time mom with two boys aged 6 and 2 1/2, and living in St. Leonard, Quebec.

Alex Mahabir (Class of 77)
I'm married and have two daughters, 11 years and 9 years. We live in Port Hope, Ontario, about 50 miles east of Toronto. My last full-time job was as Managing Editor of a medical journal in Toronto, but since our move from the city, I've been freelancing as an editor and writer, working part time at the Port Hope Public Library, and helping out in my husband's Toronto-based computer business. Our e-mail address is poley AT eagle.ca .

Betty-Ann Jones (Class of 74) bmcbey AT ovc.uoguelph.ca
Presently, I am living in a farm house built in 1860 outside Fergus which is the site of one of the largest Highland Games in North America. I work as a technician at the Ontario Veterinary College's department of Pathobiology. In my "spare" time I am taking a masters degree in Biomedical Science. My husband, Ken, is a professor of business at York University in Toronto.

Alison Fergie afergie AT utexcorp.com
I work at Utex corporation, an outerwear manufacturer, doing what my mother always wanted me to - working on computers. (Yuck I used to say) I'm systems administrator of a group of CAD systems that create designs and patterns for the clothing we manufacture. It's a far cry from fine arts but I love it. I live in St Lazare, Quebec with my family - my husband Mark Peters a "brit" who works at Canadair, our son Gareth (a redheaded 3 year old), my stepson Adam who's rapidly turning into a teenager (oh god!!!) and my 95lb sled dog Villain. I still enjoy all things creative - knitting, sewing, drawing, painting etc and have found the only sport that I am interested in - dog sledding. My sister Marcia, lives nearby and she has two dogs, a husky and a malamute. With all three dogs we have a riot. I am waiting for a female Alaskan Malamute pup at the moment. She should be born in the fall so two years from now we'll have two teams to run. Can't wait! My 13 year old nephew Aaron (Marcia's boy) is following in my footsteps and playing in the Hudson High school band. He's not playing trombone though. Hope this finds you all well.

That's all for now.
