JAZZ & NOIR
RVR alumnus Kevin (Burton) Smith, class of 76, will be reading from his story in ICED, a collection of Canadian noir, on Sunday, January 20, 2:00 p.m. at McKibbin's Irish Pub, 1426 Bishop St. (one block west of Crescent). Admission is free. Appearing with Smith will be other Iced contributors John Swan, Mary Jane Maffini, Barbara Fradkin and Matthew Firth.
This will be Kevin's first local reading, and he plans to dedicate the reading to a former RVR teacher, who happens to be mentioned in the story.
Also on hand will be local songstress/femme fatale Carol Schumph, accompanied by basist/guitarist Alec McElcheren. After all, what says jazz better than an Irish Pub?
See you there.

Susan Darcy (nee: Morell) (Class of 72) sdarcy AT federation.ca
I've been living in Ottawa since 1972 after transferring from Montreal with my husband, Andrew. Andy has been living and working in Kansa for the past 3 years which makes the home life rough but we've had lots of fun travelling. Erin is 17 and Matt is 12 and they are wonderful kids. I am a claims adjuster with Federation and although I've lacked the ambition to pursue a more challenging carreer I do enjoy helping people when I can (by the way, all Insurance companies are not out to screw you!). I've also spent the last 12 years fully involved with Girl Guides making many wonderful friends and introducing young ladies to the fun of camping, travel and volunteer work. Both Erin & I have travelled with Girl Guides - Erin to Europe and I visited Guides throughout the US, Bahamas and in Sydney, Australia. I stayed in Sydney with a friend from Otterburn - Ursula Wall.
It would be great to hear from old friends again!

Eric Grignon (Class of 86) eric_grignon AT hotmail.com
After RVR, I maneuvered through the cracks of higher education including Champlain College and graduated McGill in 93 with a degree in Industrial Relations (for the record... never worked a day in it). I've since lived in Toronto and Winnipeg. Winnipeg has been home for the last 5 years. I'm currently a salesman for AIM (a mutual fund company). Not married so far and no children. Life is awesome! I invite anyone who is ever in the Peg to give me a ring so we can tip a few to old times (204) 944-9639. eric_grignon AT hotmail.com

William D. Simard (Class of 86) Freewilprod AT aol.com
Although I am still William de Vry Simard, I only use William de Vry for my professional name. I have a residence and some property in Florida, but I am able to come home for only a month or so out of the year. For the last few years I've been working mainly on U.S. shows that shoot in Toronto or Vancouver. However, I have spent some time in L.A. and have gotten some work down there. I have recently committed myself to L.A. full time with the exception of possibly spending the summers in Vancouver. I enjoy my life tremendously and couldn't possibly do anything else. I get to meet and work with some incredible people. Was able to meet Jack Lemmon before he passed away, which was a thrill for me. I get great seats to sporting events...well okay, maybe not the Lakers. Funny thing about the Lakers. All the movie personalities sit in the 1st 5 rows and all the TV personalities sit in the last 5 rows of the 1st section. Unless of course your TV show is in the Top 10! Then you get the good seats. I've worked in some beautiful locations including Australia, the Caribbean, all over Canada and the U.S. ...I love it. The one draw back of this life is that it's almost always a single life. Can't wait to meet the right woman... who thinks I'm the right man. See, that's the key. So anyone who is married and thinking the grass is greener on the other side? Don't bother continuing to think such crazy thoughts!! I love to read about everyone's kids! Especially Bob Butler's kids! The man with the golden hands. Err... that's Volleyball talk. I do miss the Championship Volleyball team that we had. Still play some beach Volleyball in L.A. from time to time. I'm sad to see our school turning into an all French school. It just doesn't seem right. I heard the new English students are being trucked over to MacDonald Cartier? Come on! We used to kick their ass in Volleyball!! But I am thankful I speak French!

I don't know how many of you would remember me since I left RVR in grade 9. I decided to live with my Dad, and transferred to Beaconsfield High School, then went to John Abbott College. After a year Concordia, I went up to Bishop's where I graduated with a BA in Business Admin. Along the way, I met my sweetheart (in 1992), and we recently got married in June 2001. We presently live in the south end of Ottawa where we own a house and have
2 beautiful Golden Retrievers. As far as my career goes, I've been in sales ever since graduating, and currently work as an Account Executive where I sell to the Aerospace and Defence industries. I hope everyone is doing well, it's great to see all the old names from the past
