RVRHS Alumni August 00 Newsletter

O.k., yes it the newsletter is late this month as were the site updates. The long and the short of it is that I have been very busy with building web sites for clients and haven't had the time to keep up with the RVRHS site. I took today off to update the site and reconfigure some of the rest of GeekStreet which had to lose some sections in order to accommodate the increasing size of the RVRHS site. The updates aren't that numerous this month, probably because people are outside instead of sitting in front of their computers : )

If you have any friends or relatives who either went to or taught at RVRHS and haven't told them about the site - please do so. If you want to pass along information about people that you went to school with I am more than willing to print it (provided it is no libelous). Anyone who has photos to send along please follow these guidelines.

1.Single photos only (no montage on background)
2.JPG, JPEG, TIF, TIFF and BMP format only I do all the site work for this site on a PC - I have a Mac but only use that for work.
3.Make sure the file size is not excessive. I will resample images to under 120K before putting them on the site but if they are impossible to make out at that size they will not be used.

This may seem like a stupid request but please when sending email turn of your "Caps Lock" key and use capitals at the beginning of sentences as well as for proper names. I don't care about spelling mistakes or bad grammar since those have always been hallmarks of my own writing style :D

Diane Grilli (nee Simpson) pgrilli AT telusplanet.net
I am trying to locate Anne Marie Simoneau, who is listed in your Class of 84 Alumni page. I went to Richelieu Valley with her in the early 1980's and would love to contact her. I notice that her sister Valerie has written a little about herself in the Class of 85 section. If you could provide an e-mail address or contact number for either of them, it
would be greatly appreciated.

I remember Stephen Gilbert, Gordie Fulcher, Sally Feast, Gail Johnson, Audrey Forester, Bev Derby, Susan Selby, there are probably more but those names stand out in my mind. I think it would be a blast to see everyone again. I am now 43 years of age and I haven't seen any of them for over 25 years. That is a long time.

Gerard Van Herk (Class of 76) s1377209 AT aix1.uottawa.ca

Denise Goudy (nee Clement) (Class of 78) goudy AT nic.bc.ca
I would love to find some of my old friends who were actually in the 1977 class: Kim Hood, Chris Campbell, Sharon Glendenning. Please post the following: thanks. (I was in class of 78) My husband Grant and I live in the beautiful town of Comox on the east coast of Vancouver Island. I left the east in 1980 after going to Champlain and then Concordia University and ended up in Edmonton at Univ. of Alberta. From there I moved to Whistler and then Vancouver. We then relocated to Comox from Vancouver when we both spent more time commuting and a nanny was spending more time with our three children then we were. Now we live a very hectic but purely family life (7 minute commute to work on a bad day...) I am working at the local community college in the VPs office and my husband is the golf pro at a local golf club. We have three great kids (Devon 11, and twin girls who are 9 - Toria and Courtni) as well as two dogs. We spend most of our time playing or watching soccer (both Mom and kids play) or participating in one of the many other sports our kids are involved in. I haven't been back east since 1980 and haven't heard about reunions since I have been on the move. I would love to hear from my old (yet still young at heart) classmates and catch up on what everyone has been doing.

Pam Grimshaw (Class of 79) grimshawpam AT hotmail.com
I have been living in Ottawa for the past 7 years. Life is good. I have two kids, Danny (12) and Sarah (9). I am looking for Debbie Gibbs and Gail Marjoribanks. Anyone who knows where they are, please contact me.

Mark Dable (now Giffin) (Class of 80) mark AT alloy-welding.com
I should start with the name change. At R.V.R. I went by my stepfather's last name - Dable. After re-establishing contact with my father, I decided to return to using the name that appears on my birth certificate - Giffin.
So, since 1980 - After a couple of false start, I settled in Alberta within geographic proximity to Ed Tait and Ken Armstrong and joined the working world. A few years of functioning at a level below my capabilities motivated me to set a few goals. I returned to school to study business administration, graduating in 1989. The four years after graduation were a bit of blur - a new stressful career, a marriage, a divorce, and a propensity to attempt better living through chemistry.

1993 saw many changes in my life for a variety of reasons. One of those changes was moving from Alberta to Ontario. The seven years since moving have been good years. I am the Sales and Marketing Manager at a large custom steel fabrication shop in Guelph, Ontario. I have had the honour of representing Canada as an athlete on the international stage - I won a bronze medal at the 1997 World Powerlifting Championships and silver medals at the 1996 and 2000 Pan-American Powerlifting Championships. I am step-father to Bradley - age 10, Rachel - age 8, and partner in life to Glenda. My hobbies include staying awake and driving poorly.

Michael Gazier (Class of 80) mgazier AT hotmail.com
Michaël lives in the Ottawa area since 15 years, after an engineering degree at McGill. Then an MEng (electronics) at Carleton in Ottawa in parallel with 14 years at Nortel in advanced technology and product groups, and he quit his job as senior manager and advisor in system and network architecture to go spin his luck with a hot startup as lead architect (and tale teller). He continues to enjoy traveling, camping/canoeing, mountain and road biking, playing guitar, the arts, and enjoying discussions with friends. He is most enamored with his beautiful brunette partner with whom he hopes to spawn (I'm almost ready... just a couple more years).

Peter Bailey (Class of 85) pbailey AT hbesoftware.com
I pursued a career in documentary film after graduating from Concordia, had some moderate success with a film called First Kiss and then started a second one called Bad 80's Music (which is still in production). After discovering that being a starving artist did not have much appeal I ended up at a company called Hard Boiled Egg Multimedia. I went there as a stagier and for some peculiar reason I am now the Director of Human Resources and one of the founders of the corporation HBE Software Inc. We were 3 people in 97 and we are now running at 47 in total. (so lots of long hours and a few grey hairs coming in) So life is extremely good. I hope you are all doing well. Feel free to drop me a line I would love to hear from you.

Hey everyone,
Life is good...got a job, got a car and got a lady! RVRs done me well. (Surprisingly) I've been in Toronto for about 4 years and at the rate that I'm going, I'll be running into most of you here sooner or later...hurry though I wont be here forever, as much as I love the smog and all.
