RVRHS Alumni April 00
Newsletter
Ok the newsletter is late this month - sorry, but it took almost ten hours to write it, update the site entries and add the new pages to the site. This is getting way out of hand! Anyway it is done, the new stuff is all entered and ready to be surfed.
I had to tear down my system and rebuild it so everyone who was on my ICQ list has been lost. My ICQ is 27038352 if you wish to rejoin the list.
Betty Lobo blobo AT sprint.ca is trying to find out what ever happened to Ken Pilgrim (former drama teacher). Anyone having info please forward to either me or Betty or both.
Bob Davidson davidsonr AT home.com is trying to track down former Otterburn Park Road Runners especially those who ran under Ron Barnhart (in Otterburn) or Bob Bonenberg at RVR.
Rumours of untimely demise have come to me about Class of 72 alumni Edgar Marquis and Michael O'Hanlon anyone who can confirm or dispel these rumours - I would appreciate hearing from you.
Now on to the new entries. Enjoy.
Steven Richard Stamm (Class of 71)
Yes, I'm still "local"! I'm in Brossard at 450-647-7549 and also have an email address at work
(steve.stamm AT pwc.ca ). I'm in management of marketing at Pratt & Whitney Canada (engineer by trade - McGill). Married to a wonderful lady for almost 20 years with a son (Jeffery - 13 years old) and daughter (Tara - 7 years old).
Helen Lavoie (now Francis) (Class of 73)

Our son Jamaal (23) lives in Vancouver and attends UBC. Our daughter Serene (20) is currently studying at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Would like to hear from anyone who remembers me. Donna Stevenson (Class of 76)
Now living in West Prince, Prince Edward Island - Married for 14 years, three children, Brock 12, Jasmine 10, Darcy 7. Traveled across Canada aimlessly after graduation - eventually worked in Radio for Ted Rogers in Toronto for 8 years when I was rescued by my husband who was visiting from PEI for a vacation. Love at first site - quit my job after knowing him for four days and left the city life never looking back. Am a partner in aquaculture with my wonderful husband Lloyd - we grow the best darn oyster on the East coast and have recently been successful in regenerating clam population. I write a monthly column in all Island newspapers & a Fishing magazine in Nfld. and do a lot of freelance, including international publications - mostly fishing issues. Have dabbled in politics, volunteer heavily in school & family resource centers. Have a rep as an "activist" or "environmentalist" not necessarily a good thing in a province that is largely agricultural ground (and growing by the second). Have kept in touch with Corina Caulfield over the years - recently reunited with Mario Beauchamp, Barb (Rankin) and Yvonne McKinney, Mike Ryan - get together every couple of years - we still haven't grown up (hoorah) If anyone is ever in PEI - please look us up - I live on Cascumpec Bay - would love to hear from old RVR survivors. Phone number 902-853-3532 - email

Peter Denis (Class of 76) denisfam AT uswest.net
I have only been back to RVRHS once since that auspicious day in June of 1976 when I and my clan broke free of those hallowed halls. As fate would have it I was given the responsibility for the foodservices in the Cafeteria. This was a wonderfully ironic twist of fate as I had been the co-editor of the Echo and as such a sponsor of the deliciously sardonic "Caf edition". It was during that visit that I caught up with some of the wonderful teachers that I had during those long ago years. Miss Boult was preparing for retirement, she had been my Grade 3 teacher in what was her first full year in the profession. John Leggitt was great! As ever! But man, what about that hair? And the kids, did you know they made them smaller and louder? I, of course had not changed. In the years that have followed our graduation I have been busy. I have had the opportunity to have a career that has taken me throughout Canada and United States (I have been a lawyer since 1983) and through additional adventures have seen a good chunk of this old planet. I was even involved with the Montreal Expos. I have loved and been loved and have the immense good fortune of being with the woman of my dreams for almost 18 years. She has borne us two beautiful daughters, Devon 7 going on 8 and Rowan, 6 going on 19. Robin (whom I met on the beach at Kennebunkport) and I have canoed down the South Nahanni River, hiked and camped in the Rockies (often), endured the waist deep mud of the West Coast Trail, have lived a life of adventure, culture and deep personal commitment. We moved to the West Coast (Vancouver) about 6 years ago, in order that I could help lead the merger of the Catholic Hospitals in Canada's most spectacular city. This has been a wonderful time for us as it has allowed us to enjoy the amazing natural beauty of this land and to spend time with our family. I have also had a chance to work in the forestry industry and more recently to be very involved with Internet start-ups. It is a long way from RVRHS, yet the path to here was greatly marked by the time and the people in those coloured and gun-boat gray halls.
Linne Jones (Class of 77) marchand AT sprint.ca
I was in the military for 2 yrs after RVR and upon leaving met my husband of 18 yrs, Kelly Marchand class of '77, who joined the military in '83 and is a sergeant in the intelligence branch. We've lived in 3 different provinces and Kelly has spent about 6 of 17 yrs away from home on various jobs and training, including the Oka crisis, Israel, Haiti, U.K. I studied nursing, dental assistant, and library & info technology at Algonquin College in Ottawa but now working as a retail educational consultant for Scholars Choice store in Ottawa. We have 3 children: Sean,17; Blair,15; Jennifer,12. My parents are still living (84&75) and my sister Kim (class of '81) are all living in the Cornwall area. I enjoy bird watching, gardening, tole painting, and family activities. In '94, my sister Kim and I went tandem skydiving in Gananoque, ON. You ought to try it! In '93 & '97 we went to Disney World in Florida. You ought to try that too (only stay in the campground, less $)
Cindy Morgan (Class of 77) kevin.little AT sympatico.ca
I graduated from Queen's University with a BA in Economics and Psychology in 1982. Kevin Little and I were married in 1983 and we have three boys aged twelve, ten and six. We currently live in Ancaster, after six moves with Esso (Kevin's employer). I have just returned to the work force after a six year hiatus.
Suzanne Rider (Class of 77) srider AT gto.net
My family moved to Ontario in Feb. 77, missing graduation. After taking one year at Fanshawe College in London, we moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I graduated top honours in Hotel/Restaurant Administration and worked in marketing/sales for various hotels in Regina and Saskatoon for 6 years. Opportunity knocked and I moved to Calgary and directed the sales/marketing office for three resorts in the Rockies. What a beautiful job! Homesickness hit and I moved back to Ontario and Kitchener. My work continued as Director of Sales for Holiday Inns in Cambridge & Kitchener/Waterloo for over 10 years. Last year, I took a risk and accepted a one-year contract promoting a beautiful resort on Lake Simcoe, and due to the contract completion, I am enjoying a brief sabbatical and re-evaluating my career goals. I am common law married to a wonderful guy, Sabatino Lorusso (yes, he's Italian). We own a condo and have two furry felines. For those of you who do remember me, I'm still tall.... it was brutal in high school but in business, came in very handy - instant respect! I'd love to hear from old classmates anytime! Although I've lived and traveled across most of Canada, some of my heart is still in Quebec, but my French needs help!

I have a 10-year-old son, Jordan from a previous marriage and currently live with a great guy, Danny and our German Sheppard dog Kodiak. I work for a distributor of electronic parts - mostly for the aerospace industry (Bombardier) but for many other uses as well. I usually tell people I sell parts for trains, planes and automobiles.
David Singh (Class of 80) dsingh AT home.com
After RVR I went to private school with Andre Dion to Stanstead College for a year. I was dating 2 girls at the same time and one of them eventually became my wife (years of separation
later though).
I then went on to UNB and took the extended plan for graduation, I entered school in 81 and finally got my degree in Physical Education in 87. During school I attended part time from 84 to 87, almost got married to another girl in Toronto, and moved my home base to Toronto as my parents had
moved there. I worked while attending school as a waiter, bartender, asst Mgr,Manager, Maitre'D, mostly at private clubs and fine dining establishments in
Toronto. Since my ultimate goal in life was to make a lot of money, I left school thinking I would need to do something other than what I trained for,
since that was never going to pay me what my goal dictated. So I continued on in the restaurant business riding a wave of partying and making decent money to support my partying habit, until I ran into my old girlfriend from Stanstead
College. I swept her off her feet, and whisked her back to Toronto, she was living in Mtl at the time. That was Dec. 87, we got married in Sept 91 and I
went back to school in Sept of 92 for computer studies.
It was a coop program and was hired right out of school by the Toronto Dominion Bank into their
Brokerage Arm in a systems capacity. I got my feet wet with them and after a few years I decided that the grass was greener elsewhere. I started looking and
my headhunter told me about a job in Barbados. It was presented as an opportunity of a lifetime, doing the work I loved and doing it in paradise, who
could turn down that opportunity. So I packed up my life, wife and son (will get to that in a moment) came 6 months later, and moved to Barbados. Well a year later I get transferred to NJ because the firm I am consulting for wants to move
their near shore development to on shore and I go along for the ride. That was May 97 and that is where were have been since.
Family wise, I have 3 kids, Aiden will be 5 in May, Bryanna was 2 in December and Kierra was born in October last year she is 5 months. I am looking forward to returning to Canada, but the money is just so good here I have a hard time justifying the departure. Work wise I started off primarily as a client server developer developing in VB and Access, moved to more sophisticated
back ends like MS SQL Server and Oracle, now I am working on the Mainframe. I am not coding anymore :-( but am managing coders. They are developing in COBOL and I have learned so much about this environment that I can truly say that I miss the Client server world. Additionally, I am part of a horizontal QA team just implemented. We are in the process of implementing a best practices model throughout the Individual Life services systems groups, trying for an SEI CMM level 3 cert. I truly do love what I am doing, I wish I had had a brain back when it was time to make decisions about what I would do in life. Anyhow that is past and I am now doing what I should have been doing long back.
Loranne Horsfall (Class of 80)
I currently live in Chomedey,
Laval, Quebec. I am married with 2 children. Benjamin is 6 and Elisha is 4. I went on to Dawson College and then went on the Notre Dame Secretarial School. After that I went on to working in the Financial world for 17 years in different places. I now am a stay at home mom busier than ever with my children and husband. I have an email address. It is beshesh AT yahoo.com.
Tony Arnold (Class of 80)
After leaving the beloved moat-less wonder, attended Marianopolis for two years, but left there one credit shy of a DEC, moving to the University of Waterloo, where appearance on the Dean's List meant boredom, and three different majors at three different times. Left their co-op program (hated working in business) after 1 work term. Left Math after three semesters. Finally left UW for good in '86, entering the business world (go figure!) of data communications in Toronto, where my parents and brother had moved as well. Spent a year and a half working before embarking on a year long "Circle Pacific" R&R tour of Tahiti, Australia (worked for most of the time while doing the backpacker thing...), Fiji, and Hawaii. Returned to Toronto, got a job, and ended up eventually at RBC Dominion Securities. Rose through the ranks, got the proffered VP-ness, then decided that I didn't want to become a cancer stat due to stress. Took most of 1999 off, and am now an independent consultant, for my own company.
Along the way, and not incidentally, got married (to Darlene - 10 years this April) and have a 5 year old daughter and a 4 year old son.

Singh, Greg (Class of 81) gs1442 AT home.com
Was this ever a neat idea, thanks a lot! I haven't done a lot since graduating from RVR. I Spent a horrid year academically speaking at Stanstead College, though the friendships are still going strong. I Proceeded to UNB, which was equally catastrophic. Not knowing what to do I entered the community college across the street from our place in Toronto and earned myself a Mechanical Engineering Diploma. Used that for seven years to work for Magna International, an automotive parts manufacturer. I left there in 1995 as a senior buyer just fed up and wanting a change. So I again went back to school in the beautiful foothills of the Muskokas at Georgian College. I was surprised at how nice it was going back and often reflected on how easy High School would have of been if I only tried. Anyway, I left Georgian with a Culinary Management Diploma with Honours. I've since helped open a Casino in Orillia, traveled to London England to work for nothing but a pittance at the prestigious Savoy Hotel, Spent six months in Vancouver at the Four seasons, spent all of three days at the Ritz Carlton in Florida, settled in at The Royal Meridien King Edward Hotel for a year and a half when my salvation came. A friend of mine from the casino called out of the blue offering me a job at a brand new Marriott Hotel in Toronto. So I find myself here as an Executive Sous Chef at a Major Downtown Hotel and loving it.

Already have a Masters Degree in Resources Management since 1992, but now just received a Computer Programmer Diploma from a private computer school in London, Ontario. Have been in Vancouver for the last couple of years prior to this to experience a change in pace. Unlike my high school days, when I was shy, I now really like to listen to tunes such as Genesis, Van Halen, ZZ Top, among others. I wish I could have been like I am now back then. Life goes on. Alison Browning (Class of 88) alisonhb AT excite.com
I see fewer and fewer 'RVRers' as the years go by even though I'm still living in Montreal. I graduated from McGill with a B.A. in Psychology, and then a M.Sc. in Speech-Language Pathology. I'm working as a speech therapist at a special school in St-Laurent, and on my spare time I'm planning a wedding! I'm engaged to a great guy, Mark Ruggiero, who didn't go to RVR but remembers quite a few of you from the class of '85. I'm still directly in touch with a number of RVR alumni including Eric S., Kara R., Christine A. ('87), Antonio D., Bob L, Angelos D., Jeff C. & John F ('87) but will pass on this website to them instead of writing fiction under their names! I hear how many of you are doing through my core 8 'spies' but would like to hear from more online!
Elizabeth Darlington (Class of 89)
Hi Everyone! I can't begin to rattle off every single thing I've been up to in the past eleven years but rest assured, nothing has been particularly lucrative from an economical point of view. A decade of university tends to have that effect when in hot pursuit of a useless Arts degree. At least I feel tremendously intellectual and superior to most (the self-esteem...when ya got it ya got it!). I hope to graduate one of these years and start another equally unmarketable degree so as to justify my adolescent lifestyle and coinciding habits. I will not let go of my youth!!! I keep in constant touch with Tracy P., Debbie R. and Karen & Elaine Henderson from our class. Feel free to contact me at
edarlington AT hotmail.com.
Patrick Baker (Class of 90)

Olivier completed his studies and training in aviation in 1997 and is now Chief Pilot for Red Lake Airways. Things are good. Busy, but good!
Carol Jette (Class of 90)
Went to Marianopolis for one year and studied Pure and Applied Science. After her first year she decided to move to Kingston to join the military. She graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1991 she moved to Val Cartier, Quebec where she went on to become a Captain in the military. On June 19, 1999 she married her husband, Glenn Wilkins. Now, after being involved with the military for 10 years she has decided to leave the military and move to Ottawa to work for Nortel.
Suzan Jette (Class of 90) sjette AT mail2.magma.ca
I was married to Patrick Baker in August 1999 and am currently living in Ottawa as a Multimedia Developer.
After RVR I went on to Marianopolis and then did my B.Ed at McGill. Once school was finished, I spent a year in Kingston with my sister (who had joined the military). Then I spent 2.5 years teaching: one year teaching 1st grade in northern Quebec (La Tuque), a year teaching grade 5 in Shawinigan, and 2 months at RVRHS teaching computer science, geography and Phys Ed.
Then I decided that teaching wasn't for me so I took a course in multimedia. Currently I work for a consulting company creating websites and CD-ROMs, and recently I started my own company called Skyscraper Media (so if anyone need any multimedia work done, you know where to go :)!.

I've lost touch with a lot of you over the years, so here's my scoop. I was married on Sept. 5th 1998 to Barbara Welburn in Montebello, PQ. I'm presently working as a network administrator for Belron Canada in Montreal, and have been living in NDG for the last 3 years. We've just bought a new house in Ville Lorraine on the North Shore and are moving in at the end of June. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

If ever I get a job at Club Med or on a cruise, I'll let you guys in on the specials. I'd like to hear from some old 91 classmates. My e-mail is
