Who are you?

My name is Denis Bernicky from the Class of 80 - I have a blog at http://www.bernicky.com and a business site at http://www.geekstreet.com I can be reached at headgeek AT geekstreet.com

How many people work on the site?

One.

Why did you start the site?

I was doing an Internet search on memory management and came across a paper written by a former RVRHS grad. The paper was way beyond my understanding but it did peak my interest in what other grads may be doing. The site started as a site for Class of 80 since Scott Paterson was already running one for the Class of 82 I just figured someone would pick up the torch for each year. That someone just turned out to be me.

Why don't you let us put up our own info? (Why do we have to send the info to you first?)

Well you kind of do put up your own info - I just have to read it and approve it first. Submissions without email addresses are junked. Submissions in ALL CAPS are junked as well. Submissions that don't make sense are junked. I think in the past 5 or 6 years I've thrown out maybe 10 postings submitted for the site.

How much does it cost to run the site?

$30.00 USD a month for hosting is the only direct cost. Other costs like updating software, paying for monthly Internet connection and that sort of thing can't really be attributed directly to the cost of this site alone. Over the last 4 years hosting has cost a little over $1440.00 USD.

How come my name isn't listed? (How come my name is spelled wrong?)

This site is not an official RVRHS site. It is privately owned and operated and as such does not have access to official class lists. The class lists that you see are the result of people volunteering their time to key in the lists to their own computers and then emailing them to me. Mistakes and omissions will happen. If you let me know about them I will try and make the correction.

How come I don't get the newsletter anymore?

Because I don't write one anymore.

Why isn't the newsletter more regular? (Why don't you do the updates more frequently?)

I stopped doing the newsletter because too many emails were bouncing as people didn't bother to maintain their email address on the site. It was becoming an act of filling my own mailbox with bounced emails.

How come the pages take so long to load?

That is an unusual situation and I cannot explain it. Most people find this site to be very fast but occasionally I get a complaint about load speed. Most pages on this site are straight PHP with little to no graphics and should load in under 6 seconds at 28.8 kbps. Some pages (like the letter B in Class of 80) are just huge and will take over a minute to load over 28.8 - sorry about that. I am considering a site redesign that only lists people with actual postings and a page per person on that list instead of the current layout.

How long has the site been up?

The site has been up a little over nineyears now.

Why don't you answer your email?

Time - it always comes down to time. I have to take care of my business and my business email first. Then I take care of my personal email. After that - if I have time - I review the RVRHS email which always gets filed as it comes in to it's own folder. Usually I do get around to it within a few weeks.

What's with all the advertising?

Trying to generate some income to offset the costs. Not very successful but I will keep on trying it.
